Published October 18, 2012 10:08 am | Updated November 7, 2022 8:35 am

HFMA submitted comments to the Office Management and Budget in response to the Department of the Treasury and IRS’s proposed regulations under Section 501(r)(4)-(6) pertaining to tax-exempt hospitals’ financial assistance policies, emergency medical care policies, limitation on charges, and billing and collection procedures, as published in the June 26, 2012, Federal Register.

The proposed rule solicited comments for specific questions regarding the burden imposed by the collection of information. HFMA’s comments focused on:

  • Whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the IRS, including whether the information will have practical utility
  • Accuracy of the estimated burden associated with the proposed collection of information
  • How the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected may be enhanced
  • How the burden of complying with the proposed collection of information may be minimized, including through forms of information technology
