Position: Member, Certification Committee

Time Commitment: about 4 hours per month

Committee Overview:  The Certification Committee is responsible for leading the FIHFMA Chapter’s efforts around engaging and educating members about the various HFMA certifications.  The Committee also provides education and support for members pursuing and maintaining HFMA certifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Work to grow the number of chapter members with a CHFP certification and retain currently certified members.
  2. Help establish an annual plan, focused on recruiting and promotion of the CHFP and other HFMA certifications, providing continuing education opportunities and awareness, and adding value to the HFMA certifications through various events.
  3. Provide support in the form of logistical assistance and outreach for the annual CHFP practicum.
  4. Plan events and education sessions.
  5. Outreach to and recruitment of interested members.
  6. Tracking and monitoring of key metrics related to Certification.
  7. Attendance and participation in coordination calls as scheduled.
  8. Coordination with other committees such as Membership, Programming, and Newsletter as well as Chapter leadership.

Position: Co-Chair or Member

Time Commitment: Co-Chairs invest on average 2-3 hours per month and members invest on average 1 hour per month in addition to any regular scheduled events.

Committee Overview: Promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion amongst HFMA

Responsibilities and Duties:

The Committee will work with the First Illinois HFMA Board and Executive Committee to:

  • Develop an annual action plan and setting priorities
  • Assist the Board and other chapter committees in incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion into all events
  • Participate in the design and implementation of outreach programs to underserved healthcare finance professionals
  • Monitor the progress and process of diversity, equity and inclusion work

Position: Member, Early Careerist Committee

Time Commitment: ~4hrs/mo.

Committee Overview: The Early Careerist Committee is a dedicated resource for the students, young professionals, and individuals new to the healthcare finance industry. Whether you’re stepping into your first full-time role, transitioning within the field, or exploring healthcare for the first time, this committee is made to support you. Through mentorship, networking, professional development, and leadership opportunities, the committee helps members build strong foundations and lays out clear pathways for career success. It fosters meaningful engagement by connecting early careerists with experienced leaders, offering recognition programs, and creating opportunities to develop confidence, skills, and connections that support long-term success.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Annual Goal Setting: Contribute your ideas to help shape the committee’s focus; whether it’s networking, education, or career exploration.
  • Event Planning & Collaboration: Assist with planning and logistics for chapter events, and join calls to help bring those events to life.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Help identify and encourage fellow students to attend or volunteer at events throughout the year.
  • Inclusive Participation: Be part of a welcoming space that includes not just students, but all early careerists exploring healthcare finance careers.
  • Campus Outreach: Represent HFMA at career fairs and help promote the committee’s programs to your peers.

Position:

Time Commitment: 20 hours annually

Committee Overview: Annually, each chapter conducts a financial review or audit to test and validate its fiscal integrity and operating guidelines to help ensure that the chapter’s financial statements correctly reflect its activities for the year.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct an internal review using the HFMA internal financial review template. This review includes selecting 5 months from throughout the chapter’s fiscal year for testing. This testing includes:
    • Reviewing the financial statements for each month
    • Test underlying transactions such as cash receipts and outgoing checks
    • Understand whether internal controls are functioning as designed
  • Make an annual presentation to the chapter regarding the process and outcome of the review.

Position: Member

Time Commitment: ~3hrs/mo.

Committee Overview:

The Marketing & Social Media Committee is responsible for developing and executing the FIHFMA marketing and social media strategies. The committee is dedicated to increasing organizational brand awareness, driving event attendance, and boosting chapter engagement. We are responsible for creating, publishing, and tracking digital and in-person marketing content, predominantly via email, LinkedIn, & in-person events.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Contribute to the Annual Marketing Content Planner that shapes and tracks the marketing plan for the chapter year
  2. Collaborate with other committees to obtain content necessary for meaningful marketing campaigns (e.g. event details, session/speaker info)
  3. Create marketing content to be shared via email, social media, and/or in-person
  4. Attend monthly 30min Committee Member Meetings
  5. Commit to growing the chapter through brand awareness, event promotion, and member engagement efforts

Position: Member, Membership Committee

Time Commitment: ~3hrs/mo.

Committee Overview:

The Membership Committee is dedicated to growing and retaining the FIHFMA membership base. Each year, we set strategic initiatives to recruit new members, boost chapter engagement, and increase member satisfaction.

This year, we are focusing on six key initiatives:

  1. Refreshing standard membership outreach, including recruitment, welcoming new members, conducting surveys, and updating contact information
  2. Growing membership in the Student Membership Scholarship Program
  3. Hosting new and recurring philanthropy events
  4. Co-planning sponsored social events to connect outside of the workplace
  5. Maximizing attendance and engagement at professional/educational events
  6. Increasing provider participation by strengthening our value prop for healthcare providers

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Active participation in at least one of the above initiatives w/ opportunities to lead
  • Outreach to increase visibility of and attendance to FIHFMA and Region 7 events
  • Bi-weekly attendance to 30 min. Committee Member Meetings
  • A commitment to growing the chapter through new members, more engaged members, and more satisfied members

Position: Member, Program Committee

Time Commitment: Varies, averages to ~2 hours per month

Committee Overview:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Actively participate in planning and coordinating the development, delivery and evaluation of education events.  
  • Volunteer to participate in a Programming Sub-Committee (outlined below).  Each committee is responsible for the following activities.
    • Pre-Event Preparation: Setting event agenda, identifying speakers, assisting speakers in development of educational content, planning event activities and event promotion.
    • Day of Event Execution: Room and A/V setup, assisting with registration desk, thanking speakers, event kick-off, and event wrap-up.
    • Post-Event Follow-up: Review evaluation results, notate ideas for future improvement.
  • Assist in developing programming content by providing ideas for continued improvement.
  • Attend monthly Program Committee meetings (30-minute duration).
  • Outreach to and recruitment of interested programming members and event attendees.
  • Coordination with other committees such as Membership, Certification, Partnership, and Newsletter as well as Chapter leadership.

Programming Sub-Committees:

  • Spring Symposium Event: One-day Spring event (odd years)
    • Accounting and Reimbursement Event: One-day Spring event (even years)
    • Revenue Cycle Event: One-day Spring event (even years)
  • Managed Care Event: One-day Spring event
  • Fall Summit Event: Two-day Fall event
  • Webinars: Chapter-sponsored webinars
  • Webinars: Region 7-sponsored webinars

Position: Member, Scholarship Committee

Time Commitment: about 24 hours spread throughout the year

Committee Overview:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Evaluate, update and post the Scholarship Criterion and Application on the chapter website
  • Market and solicit potential applicants from the membership, via the website, email blasts, chapter publications, events and word of mouth
  • Receive, audit and assemble the applications for consideration.
  • Review and score all applications received to facilitate the selection of scholarship candidates, based upon their Academic Performance, Extra-Curricular, Community Service, Reference Letters and Personal Essay.
  • Meet to select candidates to receive a scholarship from the Chapter.
  • Organize and conduct interviews with the candidates identified, with the primary purpose being to slot the recipients for the various scholarship levels offered by the chapter.
  • Inform the candidates of their scholarship award and invite them and their parents to the Installation Dinner where they will be recognized
  • Notify applicants that were not selected of the results and encourage them to consider applying for the scholarship in the future.
  • Plan, organized and present the awards to the scholarship recipients including a check made payable to the University they will be attending, at the Installation Dinner.
  • Conduct a review of the previous year’s process and evaluate any changes or enhancements to the Scholarship Program.

Position: Member, Volunteer Committee

Time Commitment: ~5 hours per month

Committee Overview: The volunteer committee coordinates the placement of individuals seeking involvement with the First Illinois HFMA chapter. The committee follows up with volunteers to ensure proper integration into respective committees.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Organize new volunteer introduction meetings to determine where interest exists
  • Connect prospective volunteers with respective committee(s)
  • Follow up with referred individuals to ensure they are being integrated
  • Coordinate with committees to determine where volunteers are needed
  • Track members/volunteers by committee and active committees of the chapter
  • Maintain upkeep of Volunteer Opportunities tab on the First Illinois HFMA chapter website
