The award-winning medical center includes a 182-bed hospital, a full range of medical specialties, primary care services and labs. The ANMC hospital houses Alaska’s first Level II Trauma Center and is also a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center. The hospital also works in close partnership with rural health facilities statewide to support a broad range of health care and related services.

Position Description:

Reporting to the System Senior Vice President of Finance, the CFO works to ensure the financial viability of the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) division. Financial oversight would include but is not limited to establishing and monitoring financial plans and budgets; managing the financial affairs of the division(s) in accordance with business unit goals, sound business practice, organizational policies, and compliance with various government regulatory requirements; and ensuring the administration of the organizational policies on finance, accounting, finance/accounting systems, internal controls, and auditing. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to effectively operate in a matrix organizational structure. The CFO reports to the System Senior Vice President of Finance with added accountability to the System Chief Financial Officer and the lead Division Executive Officer(s). S/he works closely with executive leadership including fellow Division CFOs, Chief Accounting Officer, Supply Chain Management Officer, Chief Information Officer, and Chief Human Resources Officer.

This is an onsite role based in Anchorage, AK. The successful CFO candidate will:

  • Develop and manage strategies to assure effective financial planning and analysis. Develop tactical goals for the division; determine scope and priorities of projects; and coordinate resources required to achieve goals.
  • Supervise the ANMC financial reporting and budgeting function. Monitor analysis of budget and financial variables, revenue cycle and financial planning activities. Deliver departmental or service line level financial reporting at the balance sheet and income statement levels along with division level reporting.
  • Exercise strong leadership skills to direct subordinate financial professional staff related to managing a comprehensive spectrum of financial functions.
  • Provide financial advice to executive management including making and/or negotiating fiscal- and revenue-related decisions for budgetary and strategic planning.
  • Monitor and review national and regional trends in healthcare financial management and recommend technical improvements.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate has seven (7) years of CFO or in an executive/management level position at an organization of similar size and complexity. Additionally, at least five (5) years of financial management experience at the director level or above.

A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Hospital Administration, or a related field is required. CPA is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

Salary:

The anticipated annual base salary for this role is expected to be within the following range: $250k – $350k – $500k. An offer will take into consideration the experience, qualifications, and skills of the final candidate.

The Organization:

Pullman Regional Hospital is an independent, public, critical access hospital located in Pullman, Washington – in the heart of the Palouse, a vast geographic area spanning southeastern Washington and northern Idaho. Overlooking the Washington State University Campus, Pullman Regional Hospital includes a 95,000 square foot level IV trauma center with 25 patient beds, 4 ORs, 24-hour emergency care, and a network of a dozen clinics serving the Palouse region and beyond. 

Since the construction of a state-of-the-art, 25-bed hospital in 2004, Pullman Regional Hospital has expanded its healthcare services to include clinics such as primary care, general surgery, cardiology, orthopedics and urology. Over the past 20 years, the hospital has grown from 7,000 emergency visits to 14,500; surgical cases have grown by 35%, and a dozen clinics have been added. In 2023, Pullman Regional Hospital welcomed its first cohort of Family Medicine Residents onto campus in partnership with Washington State University’s Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.  

This summer, Pullman Regional Hospital will break ground on the Patient Care Expansion Project–a $45-50M, 5+ year phased project that includes a remodel of the hospital and medical office building on campus, funded through a $27.2M bond, hospital operations, financing and philanthropy. In addition to the capital expansion project, Pullman Regional is committed to meeting the needs of the community through clinical growth and expansion, and the formal development of population health and value-based care initiatives. Leveraging existing Epic and Workday platforms, the CFO will lead the development of a data infrastructure, analytics and dashboards to support organizational and departmental strategic priorities.

The Position:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an integral leader of Pullman Regional Hospital executive leadership team,  contributing to the strength, growth, and long-term development of the organization. Reporting to the CEO, the CFO provides leadership to a tenured finance team, partners closely with the Executive and Management Teams, and reports regularly to the Board of Commissioners. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the development, interpretation, coordination and administration of the organization’s policies and practices on finance, revenue cycle, care management, accounting, insurance, managed care contracting, patient access (registration), patient financial services, internal controls, contracting/purchasing, auditing, and health information management. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CFO partners closely with the CEO and hospital leadership in strategic planning, budgeting and performance improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency, improve financial performance and support clinical excellence.  

The ideal candidate will be a proven healthcare leader who can provide expert guidance to the senior leadership team on all financial matters and strategies. He/she must truly enjoy working with physicians and hospital staff and be able to translate and streamline financial data into meaningful information that is standardized, useful, and productive for operations. He/she will have experience in a critical access hospital or community health system. He/she will be a collaborative, transparent and operationally focused financial leader who is a good listener, metric-driven, and results-oriented.

The base salary range for this position is $250,000 to $325,000, however base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
