Location: This position allows for a hybrid (remote/in office) work environment, with a requirement for an incumbent living outside of Hilo to work on-site on the Big Island at regular intervals throughout the year (approximately four times per year for visits of approximately one week each). Airfare and lodging will be paid for by the organization, in accordance with our policies.

Position Summary: As the East Hawaii Region transitions its e-health record to Epic on November 1, the Finance division is growing its team to establish and optimize this transformative system for our hospitals and clinics. As a member of the East Hawaii Medical Group’s E-Health Record Finance team, the Regional EHR Patient Access Specialist will be responsible for collaborating on the design, build, testing, implementation, optimization and support of Epic Patient Access applications. This role supports financial operations by ensuring accurate system configuration and workflow alignment with business needs across acute, CAH, and ambulatory settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support Epic configuration, testing, and optimization for key patient access functions including registration, scheduling, eligibility, and referrals.
  • Analyze front-end workflows and performance metrics to identify gaps and recommend process improvements that enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Cycle, Clinical, and IT teams to ensure seamless Epic system integration and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Provide front-line Epic support by troubleshooting access-related issues, documenting solutions, and escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Assist with Epic upgrade testing, go-live support, and small-scale project coordination to improve system performance and workflow alignment.
  • Create and maintain training materials and reports to support user education, KPI tracking, and ongoing optimization of access operations.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field. Additional experience in Patient Access as described below may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis
  • 3+ years Epic experience in Patient Access
  • Epic certification in one or more Patient Access related modules:Revenue Cycle areas preferred or within 1 month of hire
  • Advanced proficiency in Epic configuration, workflow analysis, troubleshooting, and end-user training—demonstrated by taking lead roles in builds, go-lives, or upgrades
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills—able to engage with leadership, multiple departments, prioritize issues, and facilitate constructive decision making

As a member of the East Hawaii Medical Group’s E-Health Record Finance team, the EHR Data Integrity Specialist will be part of the HIM leadership team and responsible for collaborating on the design, build, testing, implementation, optimizing and support of Epic Health Information Management applications. This role supports financial operations by ensuring accurate system configuration and workflow alignment with business needs across acute, CAH, and ambulatory settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the configuration, optimization and maintenance of Epic HIM workflows to support accurate patient data, regulatory compliance, and efficient chart correction processes.
  • Collaborate with Electronic Health Record Team, Finance, Revenue Cycle, and Clinical teams to align Epic system configurations with operational, reimbursement, and compliance goals.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and regression analysis for new Epic features and upgrades to ensure system reliability and data integrity.
  • Oversight over data quality through duplicate record reconciliation, patient merges, and real-time issue resolution using Epic work queues.
  • Develop and maintain financial, quality, and productivity dashboards using Epic Reporting Workbench, Clarity, and Caboodle for HIM performance tracking.
  • Support and/or lead end-user training and process standardization efforts to drive documentation accuracy, coding readiness, and HIM best practices across departments.
  • Serve as a contact point for HIM end-user issues, including troubleshooting high-impact incidents, coordinating cross-team resolution, and guiding end-user training for advanced topics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, Finance, or a related field; relevant health information management and medical records experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
  • Minimum three years’ Epic experience in Health Information Management and medical records management; background in IT systems support is beneficial
  • Epic certification in Health Information Management (preferred or attainable within six months of hire)
  • Proficiency in workflow analysis, problem-solving, and systems configuration
  • Effective communication skills
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) and/or coding certification preferred

  • Develop advanced custom reports and data extracts using Clarity/Caboodle, to deliver management insights.
     

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or related field preferred. Additional experience as described below may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis; candidates with a master’s degree in finance, business administration, healthcare administration (or related field) may substitute additional education for one year of required experience.
  • 3+ years experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations, including ambulatory finance or revenue cycle; IT systems support background in Revenue Cycle a plus
  • Epic certification in one or more Revenue Cycle areas (e.g. Resolute Hospital Billing, Resolute Professional Billing), preferred or within 1 month of hire
  • Advanced proficiency in Epic configuration, workflow analysis, troubleshooting, and end-user training—demonstrated by taking lead roles in builds, go-lives, or upgrades
  • Project management capability—experience planning and driving small-to-medium projects, creating test plans, documentation, and status communication
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills—able to engage with leadership, multiple departments, prioritize issues, and facilitate constructive decision making
