Candidate Biographies

Matthew E. Cox, FHFMA, CPA

As Chief Financial Officer at Corewell Health, Matt leads the system finance team with a focus on making care and coverage more affordable, while ensuring the financial integrity of the system and its divisions. He is passionate about achieving affordable, equitable care and coverage while focusing on quality, and making health accessible for each person, regardless of their income or socioeconomic status.

Before joining Spectrum Health in 2017, Matt served in a variety of leadership roles at Banner Health, Dignity Health, Central Maine Health Care and Catholic Health Initiatives Health System. Matt began his professional career with Deloitte. 

He serves on various boards of directors and finance committees, including a board position at the President Gerald R. Ford Field Service Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Marcus Whitney, CHFP

Marcus Whitney is a Founding Partner of Jumpstart Health Investors (JHI), the most active early-stage healthcare venture capital firm in America. Marcus leads Jumpstart Nova, JHI’s institutional, strategic, healthcare seed fund.

Marcus is also co-founder and minority owner of Major League Soccer team, Nashville Soccer Club.

Marcus is the author of the Amazon #1 best-selling book “Create and Orchestrate”, about claiming your Creative Power through entrepreneurship. His work has been featured by Entrepreneur, CNBC, Inc., NPR, Fast Company, and The Atlantic.

Marcus is an Aspen Health Innovators Fellow, and a member of the board of the Healthcare Finance Management Association, Celtic Bank, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation, OZ Arts, and Scott Hamilton CARES.

Marcus actively competes in Jiu Jitsu, is a 3X IBJJF Masters World Champion, and trains on the competition team at Renzo Gracie Nashville under Shawn Williams.

Dr. Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA

Dr. Geeta Nayyar, a board-certified physician and healthcare executive, currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for RadiantGraph and is the former SVP and Chief Medical Officer of Salesforce. She brings invaluable expertise in healthcare technology and policy to the HFMA board. Dr. Nayyar is also a board member of the American Telemedicine Association, where she has actively shaped policy to expand telemedicine’s impact on patient care. Passionate about leveraging her physician’s perspective, she addresses critical issues such as workforce development, healthcare provider burnout, and the adoption of transformative technologies like artificial intelligence.

With an MBA and significant experience in healthcare advocacy, Dr. Nayyar is well-versed in the complexities of healthcare policy and economic reform. Her background uniquely positions her to contribute to HFMA’s mission during a pivotal time of industry transformation. She aims to support HFMA’s leadership in navigating these changes while ensuring a balanced, physician-centered approach to healthcare finance.

Dr. Nayyar has a strong interest in bridging clinical care with financial innovation, emphasizing how data and technology can drive financial and operational improvements in healthcare systems. Her insights on emerging technology adoption and policy implementation offer a fresh perspective that aligns with HFMA’s goals to advance member value and mission impact.

Karoline Mortensen, Ph.D.

Dr. Karoline Mortensen is a distinguished academic leader and Associate Dean at the University of Miami Herbert Business School, bringing robust expertise in healthcare policy, economics, and management to her role. As a Faculty HFMA member, she aligns her professional goals with HFMA’s mission. The University of Miami, a long-standing partner and enterprise member of HFMA, shares her commitment to advancing healthcare finance and supporting the development of future healthcare leaders. Dr. Mortensen’s work emphasizes the intersection of healthcare finance and policy, where she has contributed significant research on health disparities, Medicaid, and healthcare access economics. Her extensive academic experience equips her with valuable insights into modern competency needs, which she aims to leverage in shaping HFMA’s educational and professional pathways.

Dr. Mortensen’s research and academic initiatives focus on healthcare access, policy impacts, and financial management within healthcare systems. She has been published widely in top-tier journals and has led numerous high-impact studies funded by organizations like the National Institutes of Health. Her commitment to mentoring and curriculum development reflects her dedication to fostering future healthcare leaders and expanding engagement with young professionals.

As a board member, Dr. Mortensen envisions forging collaborative partnerships between HFMA and academic institutions, emphasizing the value of integrated learning experiences for students entering healthcare finance. Staci Dickerson, CPA

Staci Dickerson serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Banner Health, where she leads financial strategy and operational excellence initiatives for one of the nation’s largest nonprofit healthcare systems. Her role at Banner Health complements her extensive board experience with organizations such as Sonora Quest Laboratories, Banner Atlas Joint Venture, and Banner Indemnity Corporation, where she focuses on quality assurance, strategic partnerships, and enhancing healthcare delivery.

An engaged member of HFMA, Staci has contributed to the National Principles and Practices Board and has served on the board for the HFMA San Diego/Imperial Chapter. Her leadership underscores her commitment to HFMA’s mission of advancing healthcare finance and her ability to foster connections across the industry.

Staci’s expertise in financial innovation, operational improvement, and governance within major healthcare organizations positions her as a strong advocate for HFMA’s strategic objectives.
