MVA Claim Payment Requires Coordination Across Departments

Published February 1, 2018 11:43 am | Updated December 20, 2024 3:05 pm

Nearly 3 million people require treatment after motor vehicle accidents (MVA) annually. However, providers often do not receive payment for up to 50 percent of MVA claims each year. What’s missing is personal injury protection and med pay—rider-based coverage that is part of most auto insurance policies—benefits information, which could pay 100 percent of charges.

Providers can capture more of this revenue by training registration staff to capture the right data during patient intake—and ensuring the information arrives in the business office. Enabling this information flow requires coordination across registration, IT, and business office leadership.
