People: Alyson Belz recognized as a member of 40 Under 40 Class of 2025

Selected from hundreds of fellow nominees, Alyson Belz, FHFMA, MBA, has been named to Crain’s New York Business 40 under 40, which highlights dynamic young professionals across industries who demonstrate meaningful leadership in their communities. The honor caps Belz’s more than a decade of leadership experience focused on improving outcomes and reducing inefficiencies. She currently serves as executive director, financial services, at Optum, having previously held senior-level positions at R1 RCM and nThrive.

A 10-year member of HFMA, Belz is the 2025-26 Chapter President of HFMA’s Metropolitan New York Chapter and previously was a member of the Association’s National Advisory Council. Guided by her leadership theme, “Own Your Impact,” Belz said she works to inspire others to recognize the difference they can make that drives meaningful change in healthcare.

“Being named to Crain’s New York Business 40 Under 40 is truly an incredible honor, but it is less about me and more about the impact we can create together,” she said.

Chris Allen took on the position of executive vice president and health system CFO at University of Chicago Medicine on Sept. 1. He joined the health system from Keck Medicine of USC, where he held the role of CFO. Previous roles include Keck Medical Center CFO and executive administrator of financial planning and decision support. His 30+ years of financial leadership also include positions at Adventist Health in Glendale, California, UC Irvine Health in Orange County, California, Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Aurora Health Care and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Currently a member of the Association’s Southern California Chapter, Allen has been an HFMA member since 1997.

Noel Sousa appointed University of Maryland Medical System CFO

On July 14, Noel Sousa, MBA, began his appointment as senior vice president and CFO of University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), an academic private health system headquartered in Baltimore. UMMS delivers 25% of hospital care in Maryland, including primary care and specialty care across 11 hospitals. Sousa previously held leadership roles in financial analysis, decision support, accounting and finance at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, California, starting in 1997, with his most recent position being associate CFO. He is a member of HFMA’s Maryland Chapter and has been a member of the Association for
14 years.
